What is, in your opinion, the correct translation for the aforementioned terms? They are the opposite of each other and arise in spectral theory or in signal processing. Example:

We say that

\[\tag{1} F(\omega)=\int_{-\infty}^\infty f(t)e^{-i \omega t}\, dt\]

is the resolution of the pulse \(f(t)\) into its angular frequency components and that the equation

\[\tag{2} f(t)=\frac{1}{2\pi}\int_{-\infty}^\infty F(\omega) e^{i \omega t}\, d\omega\]

gives a synthesis of the pulse from its individual components.

Sono ingegeristicamente d'accordo. Si parla a volte di "composizione spettrale" di un segnale, o si dice che un segnale ha componenti in una certa banda. Per l'altro, direi che va bene sintesi (un sintetizzatore, per quel che ne so, produce i suoni più diversi sommando forme d'onda nei modi più strani).

E si, quindi "sintesi" è in questo contesto sinonimo di "composizione", e il contrario è "scomposizione". Grazie a entrambi, anzi thank you both.
