In my opinion Da Vinci Code is a good novel for English learners.
Stevenson is, sure enough, good literature reading but the vocabulary you can find therein is a bit dated. Much better Dan Brown's modern every day English.

I agree on buying a vocabulary. May I suggest buying the mobile version? I have to say that I find it much more useful than the traditional one, and it's also cheaper. There are also free mobile apps, but they are usually not as good, and they are plagued with annoying ads.

talking about sexuality ... why don't you read "the lady chatterlay's lover"?
