According to my experience I think that reading a math book is a lot easier than a romance or a story. As
vict85 wrote, the english in these books is really simple and standardized. You have short paragraphs and then a formula that helps you to understand the previous explanation.
With english books you stay more focused on concepts.

Maybe reading a book on a semi-known topic will be useful. In that way you can start reading focusing only on english (when you already know that part of theory) and then, when you move into more complicated topics, start to focus also on concepts. For example now I'm reading "Calculus on Manifolds" by M. Spivak. It's nice because the first 2 chapters are about topics that I already know, and I can use them to understand the author style, and then I will see new things and I will have to focus on concepts.
I hope I was able to explain myself and I did not made too many mistakes.
