13) Let $A$ and $B$ be disjoint compact subspaces of the Hausdorff space $X$. Show that there exist disjoint open sets $U$ and $V$ containing $A$ and $B$ respectively
Per la soluzione utilizziamo il seguente:
Lemma
If $Y$ is a compact subspaces of the Hausdorff space $X$ and $x_0$ is not in $Y$, then there exist disjoint open sets $U$ and $V$ containing $x_0$ and $Y$ respectively.
Sfruttando la compattezza di $B$ ed il Lemma precedente possiamo affermare che per ogni $x \in A$ esiste $V_x$ tale che $x \notin V_x$ e $B \subseteq V_x$. Pertanto $B \subseteq \bigcap_{x \in A} V_x$ e inoltre $A \cap \bigcap_{x \in A} V_x = \emptyset$.
Usando poi la compattezza di $A$ ed il Lemma possiamo dire che per ogni $y \in \bigcap_{x \in A} V_x$ esiste $U_y$ tale che $y \notin U_y$ e $A \subseteq U_y$. Quindi $A \subseteq \bigcap_{y \in \bigcap V_x } U_y$ e inoltre $\bigcap_{y \in \bigcap V_x } U_y \cap \bigcap_{x \in A} V_x = \emptyset$.
Pertanto $\bigcap_{y \in \bigcap V_x } U_y$ e $bigcap_{x \in A} V_x$ sono gli aperti cercati.
